A Challenging Championship 3-Lap Course
Three exhilarating laps of a closed-road circuit around the iconic Caerphilly Castle — a true championship test that rewards racing instinct and tactical running. With the ancient castle walls towering above you, roaring crowds at every turn, and Lamborghinis leading the elite field off the start line, this is one of the most exciting and atmospheric race experiences in Wales.
Official Championship Race
An official Welsh Athletics closed-road event featuring five races for every level — from the Elite 1 Mile and Welsh Championship 5KM, to the Welsh Masters, Kids Fun Run, and the Open 5KM. Whether you're chasing a title or your first finish line, there's a race for you.
Chip-Timed & Measured
Officially measured and certified accurate by the Association of Course Measurers. Fully chip-timed so every finish time is official and PB-eligible.
2027 Race Categories
1 Mile Elite Race
Sub 6-minute mile entry requirement. The fastest mile in Wales — line up against the best and race for glory around the castle walls.
1 Mile Kids Fun Run
Ages 7–15 years old. A brilliant introduction to competitive running in an electric atmosphere right in the heart of Caerphilly.
Elite 5KM Welsh Championship
Sub 20 min qualifying time (men) · Sub 25 min (women). Compete for the Welsh Championship title on a closed-road course around the iconic castle.
Welsh Masters 5KM
Age 35+ men and women. Sub 45-minute cut-off. A good-for-age championship race. Win your Welsh Masters title competing against runners in your own age group.
Open Caerphilly 5KM
20+ minute finishing time. Open to all abilities — your first 5K, a PB attempt, or just soaking up the incredible race-day atmosphere.
